•  WELCOME TO THE NEW PLAYING SEASON

The 2009-2010 badminton season will start on September 14th, at Earl of March High School.

We would like to express our appreciation to all former executives and volunteers for your dedicated work, and to all members for your cooperation in the past year. As always, in order to have a successful and enjoyable new year, we need support from all members.

At the beginning of the new season, we strongly encourage every new and returning member to visit KBC rules for details of all safety, operating rules and etiquette guidelines.

We would also like to take this opportunity to emphasize the following IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Training:

There will be two FREE training sessions held on site on Sept. 21 and Sept. 22. The training will be focusing on basic rules of the game, lines on the court, basic techniques, keeping score, etc. We strongly encourage all beginners and new club members to attend either one of these two sessions.

Safety:

1. For your safety, DO NOT CROSS COURTS while play is underway, and, give the courts' boundaries a wide berth, especially near the players’ board.

2. Junior members are required to wear protective eyewear equipment (Ages 16-18).

3. If you are injured during playing, please report to the KBC executives on site immediately. You are covered by KBC’s insurance only when you claim the injury right on court.

4. If you are experiencing a fever or flu, we highly suggest that you stay at home and get fully recovered before returning to play.

Operations:

1. There will be two Court Captains on site every game night. The purpose is to ensure that a) rules and etiquette guidelines are followed by all players; b) shuttles are properly used and cared during and after the game. All the members are encouraged to volunteer. · The Court Captain Volunteer Sheet will be posted on the board in the gyms after the session starts. Executives will take turns to be court captains the first 2 weeks of the season.

2. Please help to set up and clean the courts before and after games. PLAY SHOULD NOT START until all the courts and the players’ board are set up! Members setting up the court(s) are allowed to play first – their names have first priority on the players' board. (NOTE: At Earl of March the centre nets are put up first to ensure proper tension)

3. When you arrive at the start of the evening, take your nametag from the storage board and put it at the bottom of the player list. When you finish playing for the evening, return your nametag to the storage board. The nametag cannot be moved from the top to the middle of the waiting list. It can only be moved to the bottom of the waiting list.

4. If you plan to bring your guests, please note that from the beginning of season through November 15, we will not be accepting guests. Subsequent to these dates, guest fees are $5.00 per night. Guests are allowed two visits – they are expected to join if they wish to continue playing with the KBC (if space is available). If there is high member attendance, the club reserves the right to limit the number of guests to give paying members priority.

Community:

Lastly, for those Facebook users, you can find the “Kanata Badminton Club” group on Facebook.com, which has been set up voluntarily by some active KBC members.

We wish you a fun and healthy season with Kanata Badminton Club!

Best Regards,

Executive Team
